David has joined National Criminal Defense Group as Of Counsel during summer of 2016. He primarily handles federal defense cases on behalf of the firm and has represented clients across the State of Florida, and New York.  He focuses his practice on representing individuals accused of Federal and State criminal offenses.  In addition to his criminal practice, he represents clients in select civil litigation matters. David graduated magna cum laude from Stetson University College of Law with his dual JD/MBA degree.  At graduation, he earned a Certificate of Concentration in Advocacy, focusing in the areas of white-collar crime, securities, and tax issues.  Prior to attending law school, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Finance from The University of South Carolina, Columbia. David is actively involved with the Federal Bar Association, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the St. Petersburg Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Goldburg-Cacciatore Criminal Law Inn of Court. During his career, David has handled over 2,000 criminal cases.  His experience includes representing individuals who are under criminal investigation, as well as individuals who have been arrested and are facing formal criminal charges. David has extensive trial experience and has represented clients in both Federal and State criminal courts.  He has represented clients accused of Federal & State White-Collar crimes; Federal & State drug crimes, including international drug trafficking, drug trafficking, distribution, and sales; 1st Degree Murder and other violent crimes, including sex crimes, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, burglary, and robbery; and numerous other offensess.  He also has experience litigating pre-trial matters related to evidentiary issues and substantive legal issues, such as Motions for Immunity under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law and double jeopardy issues. Prior to joining Brown & Doherty, David served as an assistant state attorney in Pinellas County.  As an assistant state attorney, he prosecuted felony cases and also served as lead trial attorney of a county court division.  As a lead trial attorney David supervised other attorneys in the prosecution of various misdemeanor offenses. In addition to the practice of law, David spends his free time enjoying the Tampa Bay area and travels frequently.  He is an avid football and baseball fan, and regularly follows his alma mater The University of South Carolina Gamecocks and his hometown Chicago Bears and Chicago Whitesox.
